People are not smart. A majority of people in America are quite stupid. I know because I'm one of them. What I'm trying to say is that none of us are politicians, and thus, none of us should be making big political decisions. I think it's retarded to have all these people that don't know much about politics and have them vote on important government policies. The very reason for Fox News and MSNBC and most news stations is to give us their interpretation of political going-ons.
There's the political candidate being voted on, the interpreter of that person's character (news stations) and the person that receives the interpretation and makes the ultimate decision. This is a problem because, in a way, it's not the individual citizen that is making the decision, but rather, It's the interpreter.
Thus, I propose a change. Leave the politics to the politicians, and the citizens to the citizenry things. Of course, I know the government can get out of hand at times (dictators and whatnot). So, there would need to be some implementations in place to allow citizens to retain some control. I just think that voting is not true control, at least not in a capitalist system where news stations are the ultimate deciders.
Perhaps, however, we could switch control of the military to be a citizen decision. That is...voting on who is the best likely candidate for military generals and etc. I don't know, but something other than voting politicians because America is too stupid to handle it.

Selfishness
People are selfish. Everyone. Every single person in the world is looking out for themselves first and everyone else second. That's why we have billionaires and celebrities with unnecessarily extravagant homes, pet tigers, and private jets while there are still homeless, starving people living under bridges and starving villages in Africa. It's important to remember what is truly necessary and what is desired for life. This can be debatable in some ways but ultimately, what is most necessary is the survival of our species and the survival of our planet. My own life is insignificant compared to the billions of other people that live on the planet and the billions that have died and the billions that will live in the future.
However, it is inscribed into our genes, perhaps as an ancient instinctual thing to take care of your own individual self first and therefore, at least one from a species will be sure to live on. But if the entire species does this...while living and working so closely together with no other means of death but by disease, yourself, or another person...it becomes harmful to the species to think so selfishly.
At this point, the creativity engine of my brain has slowed and fails to write more. Good night.
